What a tow costs here — actual numbers

ServiceTypical range
Local tow (hookup + first miles)$75 – $125 + $3 – $5 / mile
Cross-town example (10 miles)$110 – $175 all-in
After-hours / holidayModest bump — quoted plainly, never doubled in the dark
Regional transport (Cleveland, Dalton, Jasper…)Quoted flat by distance — often cheaper per mile than local
Motorcycle / low-clearance (flatbed)Quoted on call — equipment-dependent

The number you approve on the phone is the number on the receipt. If the situation on-scene is different from what was described (a winch-out disguised as a tow, for instance), you hear the new number before any work starts — see recovery pricing. And every range this site publishes, tow to jump start, sits on one page with the levers that move it: the full towing cost guide.

Why "price before hookup" is the whole pitch

Ask Chattanooga about towing and you'll hear the horror stories — this town's Reddit threads are full of $325 surprise invoices and yards that charge storage by the sunrise. The pattern is always the same: no quote, then leverage once the car's on the truck. So we inverted it. Location, vehicle, destination → price and ETA → then you decide. If a driver anywhere ever refuses to give you a number before hooking your car, that refusal is the answer; wave them off.

Where your car goes: your call

A tow is a taxi ride for your car — you pick the destination. Your trusted mechanic, the dealership, your driveway. What you generally want to avoid is defaulting to "just take it to your yard": storage yards charge daily, and a car parked three days "deciding" costs more than the tow did. If you don't have a shop, say so on the call and we'll take it somewhere that won't hold it hostage — your driveway is always free parking. And if the car is already sitting behind an impound fence, the impound guide covers the release process step by step.

Flatbed vs. wheel-lift, in one paragraph

Wheel-lift (the classic hook-style) is fine for many front-wheel-drive cars towed short distances. All-wheel-drive, low ground clearance, damaged wheels, or anything you care about long-distance wants a flatbed — the car rides, nothing rolls. Tell us what you drive when you request the callback and the right truck comes the first time; an AWD Subaru dragged on two wheels is how a $120 tow becomes a $3,000 transfer case.

What to have ready when you request the callback

Three things turn a callback into a rolling truck: where the car is — an address, a cross street, or an interstate direction plus mile marker ("I-24 westbound near 178" gets found fast); what it is — year, model, and whether it's AWD or lowered, which decides the truck; and where it's going. With those, the quote is one number and the ETA is honest. Without them, everyone's guessing — and guessing is how the other kind of towing bill happens.

Is 2am towing different from 2pm towing?

Same trucks, same price-before-hookup rule, around the clock — that's what the 24/7 on this site means in practice. The after-hours difference is the modest, stated bump from the table above, still quoted before dispatch, not a number discovered at the yard. Night work is mostly interstate work — breakdowns at the I-24/I-75 split, a dead alternator after a late shift — and the safety advice doesn't change with the hour: hazards on, stay belted and away from the traffic side, and send the callback request from inside the car if the shoulder is narrow.

Do you tow motorcycles?

Yes — flatbed only, with a wheel chock and soft straps, never a wheel-lift drag. The same goes for anything lowered, vintage, or otherwise precious. Say what you ride in the callback request and the right equipment comes the first time; motorcycle and low-clearance jobs are quoted on the call because the securing work varies more than the miles do.
