The honest triage, before you spend anything

• Dead battery: a jump gets you rolling, but a battery that died in a parking lot will do it again — drive straight to a parts store for a free battery test, not home to the driveway where round two happens.
• Lockout: before calling anyone, check your phone — GM, Toyota, Honda, Hyundai and most others have app-based unlock if your car's connected services are active. Free beats fast. No app? We open it without drama or damage.
• Flat with no spare: increasingly common (many new cars ship without one). That's a short flatbed hop to a tire shop, and we'll say so on the phone instead of driving out to discover it.
• Out of fuel on the interstate: if you're on I-24 or I-75, remember TDOT HELP trucks carry free fuel during patrol hours. After hours, or off the interstates — that's us.
